Guide
The Evans Genealogical Collection began with the research
of Dr. W. A. Evans on his families and other families of Monroe
County and the majority of our holdings reflect its beginnings.
Miss Lucille Peacock continued the development of the Genealogical
Collection, which now attracts visitors from all of the fifty
states.
For persons wishing to conduct research in Monroe County,
Mississippi, listed below are some answers to some frequently
asked questions.
Mississippi Law did not require Birth
and Death Records to be kept until November 1, 1912.

The Circuit Clerk’s Office
at the Monroe County Court House
is the site for all Monroe County Marriage
Records, Jury Lists and Tax

All Divorces, Deeds, and Wills
are housed in the Chancery Clerk’s Office, 201 West
